When the Port Commission realized that the Deepwater Gulf of Mexico development would place unprecedented demand on port property, they aggressively began searching for expansion options. Expanding north of the E-Slip development was the most feasible and cost-effective option. Through tireless efforts and intense negotiations with landowners, the Commission acquired 4,000 acres north of the E-slip for expansion of Port facilities. Within a year, the Commission had acquired the neccessary permits to construct, came to agreement on its mitigation responsibilities, and began an aggressive port expansion effort.

Phase I of Port Fourchon's Northern Expansion, which includes Slip A and Slip B, is complete. Construction of Slip C began in 2011 with a bucket dredging project, carving out the beginning to the next phase of port expansion.

Most Northern Expansion property is already leased by companies eager to reserve their spots in the Gulf region's premiere port.
